MODELING REALITY

Christians are encouraged to ask God for things. In the Bible we find: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" - Matthew 7:7.

And Jesus is quoted again in John 16:24, saying: Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete”.

 

Asking and receiving

One evening about seventy years ago, inspired by the equations and powerful explanations of physical reality  revealed by a man named Albert Einstein, I stood on the bank of a pond on my parents’ farm in South Central Missouri, looked up into the twilight of the gathering darkness of a warm summer evening, and spoke to the God of my ancestors – the God to whom my mother taught me to pray every night before going to sleep, the God who my father assured me heard every word and responded in the most appropriate way to every prayer. I looked up, trying to express the burning desire of my heart, and said aloud: “God, I want to know everything!”

The immediate response I received exceeded anything I could ever have imagined or can ever hope to adequately describe. I have written about this before. The first time was in my first published book: The Book of Atma, (Libra, 1977). [Used copies of the book are available on Amazon. For those who might like a new copy, I still have a few]. Memory of this experience is described on pages 48 and 49 of The Book of Atma, but you might want to read pages 43 to 49, or more, to get a better sense of the experience in a more complete context.  

Seventy years have passed, during which time I have studied mathematics, science, the meaning of life, and explored the roots of consciousness. I have also explored rivers, caves, and jungles, around the world. I have worked and lived in a dozen states and half-a-dozen countries, published books, articles, and papers; but I am still trying to explain what I experienced that evening.  Why? It is human nature to want closure, absolute certainty, perhaps even the ability to explain the inexplicable. But the most amazing and inexplicable thing of all is the fact that we, you, and I, in this moment, exist as conscious beings, capable of learning and growing in physical strength, mental acuity, and spiritual virtue, in a finite universe that is rapidly expanding into infinity! Why and how is this possible?.

How is it that we are conscious? And what exactly is consciousness? For me, discovering that, because it is primary, consciousness cannot fully explain itself was key to answering these profound questions. I have to say that it was the essence of the answer I received that summer evening in 1952, even though it would take me years to understand, and even more years to discover that one must learn to leave the body and be born again to embark on the path of Self-realization. I know now that the spontaneous experience of expanding consciousness I experienced that day in 1952 was not the first, or the last occurrence an out-of-body experience (OBE) for me.

I had a near-death experience (NDE), a dangerous type of OBE, in the Great Pyramid on the Giza Plateau of Egypt in 2010. When my research partner, Dr. Vernon Neppe heard about it, he remarked that, while the question of the meaning of the experience was an important one, at least for me personally, the more important question might be: Why was I the only one, among all of the people who entered the pyramid that afternoon, to have such an experience?  I know the answer to that question now, but it is very difficult to explain. Part of the answer is that, with a background in the study and teaching of mathematics over the course of several lifetimes, I was consciously and sub-consciously aware of the history of mathematics in human thought. In particular, I was aware that in 1931, an Austrian/American mathematician named Kurt Gödel published two proofs known as the incompleteness theorem.

Because there is some confusion about what the word “theorem” actually means, I think I should provide a precise definition of the word here, before discussing the incompleteness theorem in this context. The words theory and theorem are sometimes confused because they sound very similar, but, in fact, the meaning of the word theorem is almost the exact opposite of the meaning of the word theory. A theory is a hypothesis, something that may be true, but has not yet been proved, while a theorem is a logically precise statement that has been proved mathematically. A scientific theory, even one that is favored by many scientists, is still open to debate, challenge, and testing. On the other hand, when a quantitative hypothesis, called a conjecture, has been proved with mathematical logic, it is elevated to the status of a universal truth known as a theorem.

The Incompleteness Theorems

Rigorous mathematical proofs like Gödel’s are tedious, even for many mathematicians, especially because of the narrow specialization that is encouraged and institutionalized by the academic structure of modern universities. However, no serious attempt to understand the nature of reality can be undertaken without reference to the universal incompleteness of logical systems proved by Gödel. That’s how important the incompleteness theorem is. Fortunately, why it is so important, is not that hard to understand.  Defined as everything that actually exists, reality is the pre-eminent logical system within which all consistent logical systems must exist, and the truth of Gödel’s incompleteness proof applies to all consistent logical systems, including reality itself.

 

In this post, I will only discuss the conclusions of incompleteness, without the lengthy details of rigorous proof. For those of you who might like to work your way through the complexities of the mathematical logic leading to the conclusions, I would like to recommend the little book (barely over 100 pages) titled Gödel’s Proof, New York University Press,1986, by Ernest Nagel and James R Newman. It was written for the “non-specialist”, in a very readable, narrative style, with historical details that put the proof into proper context and emphasize its importance to modern science and mathematics.

 

It is worth noting that when Harvard University awarded Gödel an honorary degree in 1952, his incompleteness theorem was cited as one of the most important advances in logic in modern times. Einstein remarked to a colleague toward the end of his life when his health was failing, that some days, he only bothered to go to the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton in order to talk with Kurt Gödel! In my opinion, one of the most likely reasons for this was the implication that Gödel’s proof has on the idea of a “theory of everything” (TOE), an idea made popular by Einstein’s successful combination of universal gravitational and electromagnetic forces in one consistent system of mathematical logic in the theory of relativity.    

 

Despite the complexity of the proofs, the universal truths revealed by Gödel’s incompleteness theorems are really simple, as most profound truths are. Understanding the incompleteness of consistent logical systems leads to the conclusion that in any consistent model of reality, including the hypothetical TOE dreamed of by many theoretical physicists past and present, contradictions will arise that cannot be resolved with the logic of the system within which they are stated. Gödel’s proof dashed the hope of ever developing a complete axiomatic system of mathematical logic, something that was arguably the most important goal in the famous 23 Problems of Mathematics listed by David Hilbert, who was considered by most to be the leading mathematician of the time. The conclusion that no logically consistent system can ever be complete is consistent with the accelerating expansion of reality indicated by the red shift in the light from distant stars.

 

Red shift data implies that the visible 3-D universe is expanding, with the most distant objects moving away from us at velocities approaching the speed of light. The experimentally verified equations of relativity imply that the maximum relative velocity of accelerated objects in our universe is limited to speeds less than the speed of light. This means that, even if we were able to travel toward the most distant star at a velocity very near the speed of light, the edge of the visible universe will have receded even farther than the distance we will have traveled in the time taken to reach the point where the edge of the expanding universe was relative to the Earth’s location when we started the journey. Finally, the TDVP model, based on empirical data from the Large Hadron Collider, and verified with explanations of Standard Model paradoxes and puzzles, implies that reality occupies nine finite dimensions expanding into and out of the infinity of Primary Consciousness. Thus, reality is Infinite, and human consciousness, confined in a finite body, is incapable of comprehending it.

 

The way out of this “Catch 22” intellectual bind, has been glimpsed by many during lucid OBEs, and the infinity of Primary Consciousness has been fully experienced by spiritually advanced souls who have transcended the currently prevalent zeitgeist. But even though memories of some aspects of it may be retained by some after they return to “ordinary” finite consciousness, the experience of the Infinity of infinities of Primary Consciousness cannot be described in the finite terms of any language. Like reality itself, logical systems of conscious expression are expanding into infinity as reality evolves in ways that support the positive growth and expansion of individualized consciousness .

 

The Rubik’s Cube, a Simple Analog Model of Reality

An analog model is a model whose elements are analogous to the basic elements of that which is being modeled. The analogy can be in the form of miniaturized versions of the things being modeled, or in the form of finite elements that relate to each other in the same way the elements of the things being modeled relate to each other. The nine mutually orthogonal, one-sub-cube thick planes of the cube are analogous to the quantal planes of the physical, mental, and spiritual realities, and they interact, when rotated, in the same way that the dimensions of those planes of reality interact with each other in the expanding universe.  

The Rubik’s cube, considered by most people to be just a toy, or, at best, an infuriatingly frustrating puzzle, is, in fact, an amazingly accurate analog model of the geometric dimensional structure of physical reality! Ernö Rubik, the Hungarian architect who built the first 3x3x3 articulate cube of wooden blocks in 1974, called it the “Magic Cube”. He used it as a geometrical model to teach mathematical set theory to students in his classes at the Budapest College of Applied Arts, where he was a professor of Architecture from 1971 to 1979.

After being rendered in plastic and featured at the Spielwarenmesse (Toy Fair) in Nuremburg Germany in 1979, the Rubik’s cube became available on the world market as a novelty in 1980. In 1981, I bought one and took it with me to Saudi Arabia, where I was employed as the environmental planner for the industrial city of Yanbu at the west end of the trans-Arabia pipeline on the Red Sea. During the Hijra month of Ramadan that year, because I was not yet eligible for vacation, I was in Yanbu with some extra time on my hands, so I spent some of it solving the cube. Fast forward 30 years, to 2011, after two more trips to the Middle East, one in 1985, and one in 2010, I discovered that the cube could be used to model the nine dimensions of the Hydrogen atom, the simplest and most abundant element in the universe, an atom comprised of the three dimensions of the electron, combined with the six dimensions of the up and down quarks in the proton! This became the inspiration for the model I used for application of the quantum calculus to describe the innate dimensional structure of objective reality, including the dimensions of space, time, and consciousness.

Reality, thoughts that make up individualized consciousness, and equations describing the laws of nature, are of course not the same things in the 3D-1t world of finite things, but they do reflect the same eternally consistent innate logical system of Primary Consciousness, which is the mind of God.

SOLVING THE CUBE IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE

 



Virtually everyone knows about the Rubik’s cube. It has been sold world-wide since 1980 as a puzzle and a toy. But Ernӧ Rubik, a Hungarian architect, was not trying to create a toy when he built the first Rubik’s cube. He developed it as a visual aid in constructing 3-D structural models. It turned out to be a great aid for visualizing 3-D matrix algebra operations. I found it to be very useful in my Calculus of Dimensional Distinctions, the 3-D geometric algebra that is the mathematical basis of the Neppe-Close TDVP model of reality. I recently published a book revealing many of the secrets of the cube. (Secrets of the Sacred Cube, a Cosmic Love Story) But that is another story. The purpose of the video below is not to sell the book, or describe complex mathematical concepts, I’ve done that multiple times. The purpose of this video is to demonstrate a point: The point that a thoroughly mixed cube can be “solved”, i.e. returned to the six-monochromatic- sided state it came in, in under one minute. I did it this time in about 11 seconds. Can I do it that fast every time? No. It depends on which of the 42-quintillion-plus possible configurations I have to start with. But I can solve it every time, regardless of how it is mixed, and usually within a minute to two minutes, - if I don’t make any stupid mistakes.

THE ULTIMATE PARADOX

Thoughts on a Sunday Morning

On a beautiful Sunday morning, self-quarantined in my Southern Missouri Ozarks retreat on the edge of the National Scenic Waterways Park, - what used to be known as the Irish Wilderness- I have a lot to be thankful for. I miss my wonderful wife of 43 years, but she worked hard to help me, both before and after she had to leave this world. She has even guided me to the one person who could help me after she left, for the rest of my life! That person just happens to live in Romania. But that’s another story, and I’ve written something about it in ”Secrets of the Sacred Cube, a Cosmic Love Story”, Published in 2019, and in “Survival”, which a publisher has accepted for publication within the next year. So I have a lot to be grateful for! But today, I want to share a realization with those of you who are ready for it.

A few mornings ago, I woke in a strange state of consciousness, It is a hard thing to describe. I woke from a deep sleep with no memory of any dreams, no fading images, nothing. But, different than any morning ever before, there were no memories of the day before, and no projections of the day to come. No tomorrow. Nothing. Just a vast emptiness. Had I died during the night? Even that question did not arise until much later. I was aware of my skin, it was an itchy surface, like the surface of a balloon, stretched over an infinity of hollow nothingness. No matter where I searched inside that itchy skin for myself, I found nothing. Later, I realized it was the Void that Buddhist adepts talk about.

One of my Rubik’s cubes was on the bed. It was scrambled. I picked it up, thinking that this vacant bit of nothing that was now me, would be unable to solve it. How could I, with no memory, solve a scrambled Rubik’s cube? But  I solved it quickly, without even thinking about it!  Surprised, I re-scrambled it, switched on the timer on my iPhone, and solved it again. 20 seconds! A new record for me! How was that possible? How could a complete emptiness solve a Rubik’s cube???! Was I really awake, or was I dreaming, or had I actually died during the night? Needless to say, the day that followed was an interesting one.

Fast forward to today. After I had my second coffee I had a wonderful communication with my helpmate in Romania, via texting. Then, relaxing, unexpectedly, I fell into a short nap.  The realization I want to share came at the end of the nap. It has to do with the Cube. As those of you who have read it know, Secrets of the Sacred Cube is, in part about lessons learned from the “Magic Cube” (That’s what Erno’ Rubik called it at first.) This is a further revelation of how the cube mirrors life.

The picture above is of a scrambled cube. It is well scrambled. Aside from the six center pieces, around which the other pieces move, and which never move relative to each other, only one single piece is where it’s supposed to be! There are two, quite different ways to solve this scrambled cube: One way, the way that only took me 20 seconds that other morning, is to reverse all of the moves that resulted in getting a chromatically aligned (solved) cube to that scrambled configuration. It’s like what cosmologists do when they try to mathematically rewind the expanding universe back to the big bang. The second way is to apply the algorithms I explained in the book, algorithms that will solve any scrambled cube, regardless of how it was scrambled.

Now, here’s the realization: the first way is like the un-raveling of all of your past karma, retracing your soul’s journey back to the Original Source. The second way is like applying spiritual concentrations, visualizations, and religious rituals, that gradually raise your spiritual vibration, and eventually get you re-aligned with the Source, like a chromatically aligned cube. The first is fast (like the 20-second solution) if you can do it, but for most of us, it is virtually impossible to remember all of the acts that got us to where we are today. Who can remember all of the actions of a single lifetime, let alone those of multiple lives? It is only after you have used spiritual techniques (algorithms) for several lifetimes, that you begin to remember all of your past actions. This is why, at this time of low overall spiritual virtue on this planet, most of us have to go  the second route, in hopes of progressing to a better opportunity in the next life, while a rare few will attain ascension to Cosmic Consciousness in this lifetime.

Finally, let’s tie this back to the Void: When you have silenced the verbal chatter in your head, repented back to your heart, opened the inner door to the world of Spirit, and experienced the Void, all things are possible! All problems are solved, and all paradoxes are resolved in the Ultimate Paradox: The Void that is the Source of all things, the ALL and the Nothing. This is why one can act appropriately from the Void. The answer is there in the Infinite, call it God, Nature, or whatever fits for you. No word can describe the Infinite Intelligence behind all things. When you are conscious of the fact that your ego simply does not exist, you can become like a hollow tube, a flute through which the Infinite can play the song of life. You are not ego-attached to the results of what happens. You are then able to act according to God’s will, not react according to ego attachments.

A few years ago, a Nobel Prize physicist reviewing a bit of one of my mathematical proofs, said: “Reading your stuff is like reading the writings of a magician!” He didn’t mean it as a compliment, quite the opposite. He went on to say: “You seem to see some deep meaning behind every equation. But mathematics is not like that!”

Yes, it is! Everything we experience in this life is symbolic, and behind every symbol is a deeper reality. I did not reply that way at the time, but now I would say: Maybe it’s not that way for you, but it is for me! And I’m sorry for you, and the many scientists who feel that way, because you are missing most of Reality!

KNOW THE CUBE AND SOLVE THE CUBE
The surface of the cube has 54 colored faces: 9 red, 9 orange, 9 blue, 9 green, 9 yellow, and 9 white. This makes 9x6 = 54 total. The cube appears to be divided up into 27 small cubes, but they are attached in the center so that they aren’t able to show all of their faces. If they were all colored on all 6 sides, there would be 27x6 = 162 colored faces, and there would be more possible configurations than all the visible stars in the night sky! Fortunately, they are only colored on 1, 2 or 3 sides.

There are 6 center pieces that never move relative to each other, with only 1 colored face. There are 12 edge pieces with 2 colored faces, and 8 corner pieces with 3 colored faces. This makes 6x1 + 12x2 + 8x3 = 6 + 24 + 24 = 54 colored faces, and that means that the number of different configurations possible is:

 N = [(1!x61)/6]x[(8!x38)/3]x[(12!x212)/4] =[(8!x38)x(12!x212)]/12

Fortunately, I didn’t have to work this formula out from scratch. It uses the concepts of combinations and permutations, for which mathematicians, with nothing better to do, have worked out formulae. Determining the number of all possible combinations and permutations is part of a broader mathematical subject known as combinatorics. If this sort of thing interests you, you can look it up on the internet. Carrying out these multiplications and divisions, we get the number of non-redundant configurations to be: N = 43,252,003,274,489,856,000.

This is still a very huge number of different configurations. But take heart! There are algorithms (sequential series of rotations) that reduce the number of necessary rotations to a reasonable number on a path through this maze of possibilities to a solved cube. By “solved”, of course we mean having all nine faces of each color neatly arranged on each of the 6 sides of the cube. Each side is “mono-chromatic”, i.e. all one color. 

THE ALGORITHMS
In order to develop algorithms (formulas) for solving the cube, we must have a notation or code for describing all of the rotations needed.

Facing any given side of the cube, the front, or facing side is indicated by the label F. the left side is labeled L, right side R, upper side: U, back side: B, and bottom side: D. The bottom side is labeled D for “down” to avoid confusion with B for “back”. Further, for algorithms describing 90-degree (quarter-turn) rotations in the nine planes simulated by the cube: F, L, R, U, D, and B, denote clockwise rotations, and F’, L’, R’, U’, D’, and B’, denote counter-clockwise rotations. (Clockwise and counter-clockwise are defined as if you were facing the side being rotated.) It is good to practice each of these quarter-turn rotations, saying “L” when you turn the left side clockwise, and “L-prime” for L’, when you turn the left side counterclockwise, etc., until they become second nature.

SOLVING THE CUBE
Trying to learn how to solve the cube by reading written instructions alone, is like trying to learn to play a violin by reading. It is possible, but reading is no substitute for a good instructor. I will have more complete instructions and pictures in the book, but just having the algorithms may give you a start. Once you get started, you may even find some algorithms of your own.

Start by holding the scrambled cube with the red center square up. Look for the 4 two-faced edge pieces with one red face, and move them up, one at time, into the top layer with the red face up. Each of the 4 will be in place when its other face (not red) is lined up with its color in the middle layer below it. This will give you a big red “X” that will be your reference frame for the rest of the solution.

Next, find the 4 corner pieces that have one of their 3 colored faces red, and rotate them into place with the red side up and the other two colors matched up with the same color center pieces of the two sides. You will be able to rotate some of these into place without disturbing the red “X”, but when it is necessary to disturb it, you must restore it before going on to the next corner piece. When this is done, you will have completed one layer of the cube. No algorithms are needed to this point. Most people can get this far by trial and error. But it is best to practice doing this until it becomes routine, because the more efficient you become at this routine, the easier the next step will be.

Turn the cube over with the red side down, and proceed to the next step. You only have the 4 edge pieces to worry about in the second layer, because the 4 center pieces are part of your extended “X”. And, only one algorithm is needed to complete the second, or middle layer, but you may think of it as two, because it has a left-hand and right-hand version. Find the edge piece in the third layer that needs to be in the second layer and line one of its colored faces up with the same color center piece. Then use one of the algorithms below to put it into place. Use the right-hand version if the piece being moved into position is facing you, and the left-hand version if the piece is on the left face.

          Right-hand: U’L’ULF’LFL’ or Left-hand: URU’R’FR’F’R

The nice thing about these algorithms is that while moving the correct edge pieces into place in the middle layer, even though pieces in the first layer are moved, they are returned to their correct locations by the time you complete the algorithm. It took me about a week to work these out the first time, and I never wrote them down until recently. They may be confusing at first, but with practice, they become second nature.
Using the right- or left-hand algorithms above from 4 to 8 times should complete the second layer while preserving the first layer. When the first two layers are complete, you are ready to move on to the third, and most difficult layer.

Continue to hold the cube with the red side down. Only three more algorithms (with mirror-image versions) are needed to complete the solving of the cube. But they may have to be used multiple times while watching for specific TRIADIC patterns in the orange faces on the top of the cube. All three are designed to move the faces in the third (top) layer while preserving the two layers already completed. It took me much longer to discover them. The first one is designed to get the top layer arranged for the second one, and the second one is designed to get the top corners in place, and the third one is designed to move the edge pieces of the top layer clockwise or counterclockwise into place to complete the cube.

There are 8 possible patterns for the orange faces in the top layer when the first two layers are complete. Fortunately, you don’t have to know what they are (even though you will get to know them through practicing the algorithms given here). You just need to apply the algorithms below repeatedly, until you obtain a “backwards L” composed of three orange squares in the upper left-hand quadrant of the top face of the cube.

When that orange “backward L” appears, use the “mirror-image” algorithm below:

Now, check to see if the corner pieces are in place. Don’t worry if they are not turned correctly, just check to see whether the corner piece with, e.g., white, blue and orange faces, can be lined up with the white and blue sides, while the yellow, green and orange corner piece is lined up with the yellow and green sides, the yellow, blue and orange with the yellow and blue sides, and the white, green and orange with the white and green sides. Chances are good that they will not all four line up. Use the algorithm below repeatedly, until they do.

LU’R’UL’U’RU2

This is the most difficult step by far, and sharp focus, concentration, diligent practice and intuition are needed. With practice, you will intuitively find your way through this step.

If, when you line one corner up, none of the others are in place, use the algorithm above and check again. If two of the corners line up, but the others don’t, line the two that are correct up on your left and perform the algorithm again. Keep performing the algorithm until all four corners are in place. When they are in place, there are 3 possibilities: either 1) the cube is complete; 2) you have a large backward L triadic pattern on the top of the cube with three of the corners having colors other than orange facing up, and one orange face on the left side; or 3) a large backward L with the orange face of the lower left corner piece facing to the front. If you have #2, then, keeping the red side of the cube down, turn the cube to the right, so that the orange face of the corner piece on the lower limb of the backward L is facing you, and perform the following algorithm:

If you have #3, don’t turn the cube, and perform the mirror-image algorithm below:

(Note that the 2 after the U or U’ means perform that quarter-turn rotation twice.)
At this point, you may have a completed cube, or you may have all the orange faces up, but with the edge pieces of the upper layer in the wrong positions. Use the following algorithm to move them clockwise around the top layer, or its mirror-image to move them counterclockwise, until you have a side-wise monochromatic completed cube.
Clockwise: R2UFB’R2F’BUR2; Counterclockwise: R’2U’F’BR’2F’BU’R’2
Congratulations! If you’ve made it successfully through to this stage, you have will have solved the cube. With practice, you will become more and more proficient at avoiding unnecessary rotations, and you may eventually be able to complete the cube from any scramble in less than one minute! HAVE FUN!

CONSCIOUSNESS AND THE NEED TO KNOW
There are several things that I want to bring from our contemplations of the cube in Part I, and quantum reality in part II, into Part III. Those things include the Triadic Rotational Units of Equivalence (TRUE) units of mass, energy and gimel, the universal connectedness of all things and the importance of intuition.

Without intuition, we are adrift in an infinite sea; the world is like shifting sand beneath our feet. We seem to have been thrust, without being prepared, into an on-going drama, where we must try to survive in a harsh and brutal environment. Looking back, birth may seem like awakening from a deep sleep: Upon awakening, we look around and find that we have arrived in the middle of the strange story of life on this planet, with no knowledge of how it began, and even worse, no clue about how it might end. The whole scenario is a complete mystery. Our awareness of self seems unconnected with the world we experience. The only thing we know for sure is that we exist - and that we need to know more in order to continue to exist.

In most cases, we have no conscious memory of what happened before we open our eyes as an infant, but this is an illusion. We do have a deep somatic memory hidden in the RNA/DNA structure of our forming bodies. We are not born as empty containers, little blobs of unstructured protoplasm with no knowledge of the past. Not at all. In fact, each blob of protoplasm blossoming into this world has within it a vast storehouse of memories, physically manifest in complex single and double spiral structures called RNA and DNA, containing records of the distant past and blueprints for the distant future.


Also hidden from us as long as our consciousness is focused on and attached to the physical body, is the complete record of the process of the manifestation of Primary Consciousness in the finite worlds of nine dimensions. This memory in Primary Consciousness, existing beyond time and space, is called the Akashic Record. Our sub-conscious and super-conscious connection with Primary Consciousness is the reason we have an intuitive sense of direction, of meaning and purpose. Without this intuition, we are nothing, full of sound and fury for a while, signifying nothing. Without intuition, we have no way of knowing who we are, where we came from, or where we are going. We only know that we are conscious, and truly, for us, reality begins with consciousness.

There are many choices at every turn, and many, if not most of them may lead into time-consuming loops that take us nowhere, and often only make matters worse. In life, as in the course of solving the cube, the path from pain, chaos and confusion to a coherent and stable existence is not obvious. We are constantly struggling to understand where we are in the process of learning the lessons of life, looking for hints, in the form of patterns that occur as results of our actions. In the process of learning who and what we really are, we become aware of all our memories and our connection with Primary Consciousness. Achieving this level of individual awareness is called cosmic consciousness. Cosmic consciousness is the purpose of finite reality, the physical universe, life, and the consciousness manifested in it...

The most important discovery of TDVP is that there is a third finite form of reality, in addition to mass and energy. We call it gimmel. Gimmel is mathematically and physically required for sub-atomic, atomic, and molecular stability. 

[Gimmel is the first manifestation of consciousness that makes atoms, molecules and life possible. Gimmel is the simplest form of consciousness that organizes physical reality to allow the kind of stable structure that supports organic life, the physical vehicle of consciousness.]
...The discovery and proof of the existence of gimmel eliminates materialism as a viable basis for science and human understanding. Spiritual evolution is the driving force behind the universe, not some random meaningless explosion, the conclusion of reductionist materialistic science. Reality does not, and cannot exist without consciousness.

How can this popular puzzle/toy have anything to do with serious questions about reality?

For me, the first glimpse of the potential utility of the Rubik’s cube for explaining the geometrical aspects of reality came when I found that the “intrinsic ½ spin” of fermions, the building blocks of the universe, could be physically simulated using the cube. Not only that, I discovered that the simulation provides a visual physical understanding of how intrinsic spin is simply the natural result of an object spinning in three, six or nine dimensions. This was an exciting discovery, but when I found that electrons, quarks, protons, and neutrons could also be modeled using the cube, I knew I was on to something. Imagine my excitement when I discovered that the cube could be used to simulate not only quantum physics, but also relativistic cosmology, and even spiritual evolution!

To understand how a simple Rubik’s cube can be used to simulate things as different and complex as particle physics, galaxy formation and spiritual advancement, it is necessary to realize that all possible finite patterns and forms are reflections of the structure of infinite reality, and that the structure of reality is pure invariant mathematical geometry.

SYMBOLIC REPRESENTATION OF THE STRUCTURE OF REALITY
The Greek philosophers Pythagoras and Euclid developed much of the logical and geometrical basis for the mathematics of modern science. The axiomatic concepts upon which their work was based were drawn from observations of the natural world. They were, in fact, symbolic representations of the structure of reality. But the various forms of mathematical methods based on their work developed over the past few hundred years, have been used primarily for practical engineering and technical purposes. Because of this, most scientists, and virtually all engineers and technicians, consider mathematics to be nothing more than tools for solving physical problems, and the connection between mathematics and reality has been blurred, if not completely lost. Because of this, we find modern scientists and mathematicians expressing surprise when theorems developed in pure mathematics turn out to have direct correspondence with observable physical phenomena.

This loss of awareness of the connection between mathematics and reality is the hidden cause of a major problem in modern scientific efforts to produce a successful mathematical representation of reality. Without re-establishing this most basic connection between mathematics and reality, finding anything approaching a “theory of everything” is impossible. This problem, endemic in modern science, once identified, is surprisingly easy to resolve. Let’s have a brief look at how the problem arises, and the solution.

Some statements we hear from modern scientists are symptomatic of the problem: Physicists today declare that there are two different sets of mathematical rules for physics, one for the macroscale and another strange, counter-intuitive set of rules for the quantum realm. And they can’t seem to resolve the conflicts between the two sets of rules. Intuitively, they must know that reality is internally consistent, and that the conflicts really just indicate that one or both sets of rules are either partially wrong, or incomplete.

At the root of the problem is the misapplication of a mathematical method that has been known as “the calculus” for more than 300 years: the calculus of Newton and Leibniz. The fact that it is called the calculus, and not just “a calculus”, is also symptomatic of the problem. It is in fact, just one of several calculi that can be defined at the interfaces of dimensional domains. It happens to be defined at the interface of space and time, which makes it very useful for analyzing and solving everyday problems involving motion.


Like all puzzles, once the nature of the problem is understood, and a solution is found, we often wonder how we could have missed it for so long. This is no different: The fact that “the calculus” doesn’t apply at the quantum level should have been obvious. The only excuse we have is that the calculus was so successful solving everyday problems that we simply didn’t think to look at the basic assumptions behind it. If we had, it would have been obvious that there was a serious problem.

MODELING REALITY WITH THE RUBIK'S CUBE



SOLVING THE MYSTERIES OF REALITY WITH RUBIK’S CUBE
A Triad of Presentations

As I prepare power points and discussions for presentations this summer, I’d like to pause to reminisce a little about some of the circumstances of my life that led up to the development of the Neppe-Close Triadic Dimensional Distinction Vortical Paradigm (TDVP), as a model of reality that is appropriate for modeling relativity and quantum physics, cosmology, and physical, mental and spiritual development.

From 1969 until 1974, with a background in mathematics and physics, I was one of the seven charter members of the US Department of Interior Systems Analysis Group in Arlington Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. I was privileged to have the opportunity to work with several distinguished mathematicians with degrees from Harvard, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and other leading Universities. At that time, I was working on my PhD at Johns Hopkins.

Under the direction of Dr. Nicholas Matalas, a Harvard PhD and world leader in probability theory, we constructed mathematical models of environmental systems. Our projects included modeling storm cell development, coastal geomorphology, the relation of sunspot activity to weather patterns, and water resources management models, among other things.

One of the mathematicians I had the privilege of working with was Benoit Mandelbrot, a soft-spoken, friendly man. At the time, he was working on his later-to-become-famous paper on fractals. As a member of the Systems Analysis Group, I helped peer-review his ground-breaking paper. More importantly, I was able to discuss fractals and other interesting mathematical concepts with him when he visited our lab in Arlington. I mention this because the use of fractals, which became a popular art form, in mathematical modeling, is analogous to the use of the Rubik’s cube to model reality.

The Rubik’s cube, while considered to be a toy, or at best a frustrating puzzle by most, is uniquely designed to model the dimensionality of reality. It has nine orthogonal planes of rotating cubes, handy for simulating the nine dimensions of the TDVP model of the universe. It has three horizontal layers that can represent the body, mind and spiritual characteristics of conscious beings, and it can equally well represent quarks, atoms and molecules, or planets, solar systems and galaxies.

RUBIK’S CUBE HISTORY
In 1974, a young Professor of architecture in Budapest, Hungary named Erno Rubik created an object that was not supposed to be possible. His solid cube twisted and turned - and still it did not break or fall apart. With colorful stickers on its sides, the Cube got scrambled and thus emerged the first “Rubik’s Cube”. It took well over a month for Erno to work out the solution to his puzzle. As a teacher, Erno was always looking for new, more exciting ways to present information, so he used the Cube’s first model to help him explain to his students about spatial relationships. 

Erno has always thought of the Cube primarily as an object of art, a mobile sculpture symbolizing stark contrasts of the human condition: bewildering problems and triumphant intelligence; simplicity and complexity; stability and dynamism; order and chaos. For this magic object to become the most popular toy in history a few chance meetings had to take
place The first Magic Cubes  As with many of the world’s greatest inventions it did not have an easy birth. After presenting his prototype to his students and friends Erno began to realize the potential of his cube. The next step was to get it manufactured. The first cubes were made and distributed in Hungary by Politechnika. These early Cubes, marketed as “Magic Cubes” (or “Buvos Kocka”), were twice the weight of the ones available later. In the 70’s Hungary was part of the Communist regime behind the Iron Curtain, and any imports or exports where tightly controlled. 

How was Erno’s invention, that had become a major success in Hungary, going to make it into the hands of every child of the 80’s? The first step in the Rubik’s Cube’s battle to worldwide recognition was to get out of Hungary. This was accomplished partly by the enchanted mathematicians who took the Cubes to international conferences and partly by an expat Hungarian entrepreneur who took the cube to the Nuremberg Toy Fair in 1979. It was at there that Tom Kremer, a toy specialist, agreed to sell it to the rest of the world. Tom’s unrelenting belief in the Cube finally resulted in the Ideal Toy Company taking on distribution of the “Magic Cube”. Ideal Toy’s executives thought that the name had overtones of witchcraft and after going through several possibilities the name: “Rubik’s Cube” was decided on, and the icon was born. In the time since its international launch in 1980 an estimated 350 million Rubik’s Cubes have been sold. 

Approximately one in seven people alive have played with a Rubik’s Cube. This little six color cube has gone on to represent a decade. It has started art movements (Rubik Cubism); pop videos, Hollywood movies and even had its own TV show; it has come to represent both genius and confusion; it has birthed a sport (Speed cubing); and it has even been into space. The beauty of the Rubik’s Cube is that when you look at a scrambled one, you know exactly what you need to do without instruction. Yet without instruction it is almost impossible to solve, making it one of the most infuriating and engaging inventions ever conceived.

I solved the Rubik's Cube during the month of  Ramadan  in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia in 1981, only one year after it became available in the West. In my upcoming lectures in California and Missouri I will be using the cube to model the cosmos, quantum physics and spiritual evolution.
