About 200 years ago, Sir Walter Scott wrote ”The Lay of the Last Minstrel” a poem that still stirs my heart and soul today. I shall copy the first verse, because I could not say it better, but the last verse refers to places Sir Walter knew in Scotland, so I have tailored it to fit my own native land, the Missouri Ozarks. I think I can be forgiven this borrowing of and adding to his words, at least in part because some of my ancestors were Scotts.

Breathing the Air of Home

Breathes there the man, with soul so dead,
Who never to himself hath said,
This is my own, my native land!
Whose heart hath ne’er within him burn’d,
As home his footsteps he hath turn’d,
From wandering on a foreign strand!
If such there breathe, go, mark him well;
For him no Minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name,
Boundless his wealth as wish can claim;
Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust, from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonour’d, and unsung.

O Ozark Hills, so rough and wild,
Fine grounding for a poetic child!
Tree-covered land of rock and mud,
Land of hillside, drought, and flood,
Land of my younger days! No tyrant hand
Can e’er untie my link to this rugged land!
Still as I view each well-known scene,
Think what is now, and what has been,
It seems to me I am of all things past bereft,
Sole friends thy woods and streams are left;
And thus I love them better still,
In health, or even if extremity ill,
By Pond Springs branch then let me stray,
Though none need guide my feeble way;
To see the crystal waters flow,

O’er the rocks into Big Creek,
To think of friends of long ago,

With tears running down my cheek,
I will lay my head on sand and stone,
Where quite forgotten and all alone,
When it comes my time to deal with death,

What better place can I find, to draw my final breath?

A POEM FOR JACQUI

A POEM FOR JACQUI

The blackest black of deepest space
Is gone when sparks one flash of light.

The blue and green of Earth do grace
The fleeting dreams of inner light.

Call up Akashic memories
Of all the histories of Earth,

The dance of all Realities
Both of sadness and of mirth.

The Light that glows behind your eyes,
The Love that burns within your heart,

Did they not know the ancient skies?
Did they not always play their part?

Imagined differences we see
Of me and you, of you and me,

Like rivers flowing to the Sea,
They merge as One eternally!

ALIGNMENT

UNIVERSAL ALIGNMENT

Be grateful, and honor Mother Earth,
The special place that gave you birth,
Where meeting of the Yin and Yang,
With Earth and Water, Fire and Stone
Aligned so that the heavens sang,
And brought you forth in blood and bone:
To become the soul you are today.

Align once more with joy and mirth,
For you are all of Heaven’s worth,
Brought forth with tears of joy and pain,
Into a life, where you, and you alone,
Must portray a vital role, and sing again,
Your unique, angelic voice to hone,
To let God know you passed this way.

The purpose is to wake the soul
From its hypnotic dream,
To expand, and become the Whole,
To know Infinity Supreme.
So bless that little spot of Earth,
That gave to you this universe
In which to grow and sing your song.

Align yourself, that you may blend,
From the beginning until the end,
Into the measured symphony,
Becoming the joy and ecstasy
That you are truly meant to be;
Before you hear the final gong.

SHARING A SUNDAY AFTERNOON

WHAT A WONDERFUL AFTERNOON!

Aaahh,,,!!! A bright sunny afternoon,
At home, with my true love,
On the edge of civilization.
Enjoying Bach, Beethoven, and the Piano Guys…

A cup of Sumatran dark roast…
A red fox with white-tipped tail
Glides ghost-like across the back yard;
The neighbor’s tabby cat chasing a baby squirrel.

Joshua makes his chicken Alfredo with angel-hair pasta.
Could life be better? …Maybe…
Good music stirs the soul, good food satisfies,
And there is the deep love of those who mean the most to me.

Words are completely inadequate to share what I feel.

Am I the most blessed man in the world?
I hope not. Sure, my cup overflows,
But I know not the ecstasy of those
Who are much more than I,  One with Everything…

The Lord God is infinite, in Him my soul doth sing.

THE GOAL

THE GOAL

Stirring deep within the dark tank of matter,
The spark of life begins to glow;
And the drumming, faint, of raindrop patter
Excites the seed that wants to grow.

Like sunlight bursting through dark clouds,
Heralding hints of future glory,
Cells divide to become bursting crowds,
And start the never-ending story.

As ancient as the blinking stars,
As new as Adam’s very first breath,
Reaching through the prison bars
Of endless pain, of birth and death.

We must, we must, forever strive
Against the crush of entropy,
To keep the soul’s promises alive
To overcome the tyranny,

To escape this heavy Earth of ours,
And free our caged souls
To soar beyond the distant stars,
To reach the highest goals.

The goal was set before the start
Of swirling clouds of cosmic dust
Glowing deep within the heart
Off every spark of human trust.

To know all there is to know,
To see all there is to see,
To grow all there is to grow,
To be all there is to be!

A Song for All Tomorrows

When life gets tough and hard to bear,
We rise upon the wings of song
And soar above the bleak despair
That comes of thinking things are wrong.

A song-filled heart adjusts the mind,
And when the mind begins to sing,
It leaves its worries all behind,
And rises to the Golden Ring

Of harmonies that wash away
The woes of Earthly sorrows,
To fill our hearts, every day,
With a song for all tomorrows.

BEYOND MATH AND PHYSICS: LIFE AND CONSCIOUSNESS

BEYOND MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS: LIFE AND CONSCIOUSNESS

Mathematical Physics and Poetry
As you know, if you’ve read my resume, I am a physicist, mathematician and engineer by formal education and training. But, more importantly, before and after that, I am a human being. The purpose of this post is to put the findings of the Triadic Dimensional Vortical Paradigm (TDVP) into proper perspective: the perspective of life. Because, after all, without the existence of living, breathing, thinking beings, all the discoveries of science would be worthless. The mathematician (the first degree I earned) deals with things that can be measured and thus represented by numbers. The physicist (what I thought I wanted to be from the age 14) uses mathematics to describe relationships between matter and energy dynamically interacting in time and space. These two subjects, math and physics, are considered by most people to be difficult, complex, and virtually incomprehensible without extensive education. This, however, is a misconception perpetuated by the naiveté and egos of physicists. Mathematics and physics are, in fact, the simplest of subjects, because the complexities of life and consciousness are ignored. A science, whatever it is called, that considers only the interaction of matter and energy in space and time is a simple science. But it is easy for an academic mathematical physicist to forget this, and this deliberate ignorance of anything that cannot be weighed or measured, coupled with the arrogance of ego, leads them to imagine that they can produce a ‘theory of everything’!

True innovative, visionary scientists, of which there are precious few, know how little they know. I believe Albert Einstein was one, because he said “It is amazing that we can understand anything” and his motivation was to “know God’s thoughts”, in contrast with many mainstream scientists who “have no need for concepts like god or divinity”. In my opinion, anyone who claims to have a Theory of Everything (TOE) is simply announcing his or her ego and ignorance. Believing you can produce a TOE is mental masturbation, leading to intellectual impotence. Belief in scientific materialism is belief in a sterile universe devoid of life. A real scientist should be a poet, whose language is mathematics. A poet realizes that his words can never completely capture the majesty of reality, or the amazing miracle of life.

A mathematical statement like E=mc2 is actually a poem dealing with things that we can observe and measure. Mathematics is a simple language, a language striped of meaning beyond weight and measure. But, like a poem, it can hint at the fullness of reality that exists beyond weight and measure. You can see that mathematics is just a simple language by realizing that the left-hand side of an equation is the subject, the equals sign is the verb, and the right-hand side contains the object, and indirect object of the statement. Complex mathematical functions can contain adjectives, adverbs, infinitives, and participles, but they are still just simple statements.

Quantum Statistics and Physical Laws
Like a good poem, the mathematical statement of a law of physics states an underlying principle that predicts the probable outcome of an observation. Why do I say “probable”? We’d like to think that an equation like F = ma (Newton’s Second Law of Motion) is exact. It says the force possessed by a moving object is equal to its mass times the acceleration behind its motion. It is exact, however, only if the object’s mass is constant over space and time. For general purposes, the law works, for instance in determining the force with which a car traveling 60 miles per hour strikes a tree. If, however, the object is a space craft or rocket traveling at a velocity near the speed of light, the statement is inaccurate. But it is even worse than that: reality is messy relative to mathematical expressions. A physical object is made up of billions of molecules, atoms, electrons, protons, neutrons, and quarks. The molecules, atoms and sub-atomic particles that make up a physical object are in a constant state of flux. It is only in the aggregate, on the average, that the object obeys Newton’s law. But the law works for all practical purposes at the macro-scale of everyday objects. The actual force will be equal to ma, within the margin of measurement error. Therein lies the elegance and poetry of F = ma. Much like a poem, it conjures up images of real events which may be much more complex, with the economy of finite symbols.

Paradox, the Fount of New Knowledge
The longer I live, and the more experience I have, the more I realize that anyone who has never contradicted himself/herself, has probably not said very much of any importance. Conflict and paradox are inevitable in a world of infinite possibilities, and no one wants a world of absolute determinism. (See the posts on Dangerous Knowledge and the Disappearing Genius.) Scientists bemoan the fact that relativity and quantum physics do not seem to fit together as they should. But, knowing that reality obeys Gӧdel’s incompleteness theorem, and is thus effectively infinite, paradoxes in science should be seen as doorways to new knowledge, new science.

From Top Down, or Bottom UP?
If we look toward the stars in distant galaxies, toward the edge of the visible universe, the math of relativity applies; but, if we look toward the heart of the atom, the realm of electrons and quarks, quantum mechanics is the math that yields the correct answers. But, as conscious beings, we live in the middle, and I submit that the math of the calculus of distinctions, which includes consciousness as a real and active part of reality, is the appropriate math for us. And it is pure poetry, I believe, that the calculus of distinctions also works on the quantum and galactic scale! The reason it works is because everything is God’s thoughts, and God is just a human word for the logic and intelligence that is manifest in the reality of the universe we experience. We experience only a small part of the universe through our physical senses, and we can only observe and measure quarks and galaxies indirectly, but we are capable of being aware of their existence, and much more, through expanding our consciousness beyond that experienced through our physical bodies.

Quantum Equivalence
The most unique and important finding of TDVP is the discovery of the mass/energy/space/time equivalence at the ultimate quantum level. See the posts on TRUE units and gimmel, and published books and papers available on www.BrainVoyage.com, and in scientific journals. This discovery allows us to understand why there is a universe, why there is something rather than nothing, and reveals the fact that the universe is designed from the beginning for organic life and the physical expression of consciousness. Discovery of this equivalence has enabled us to explain a number of things not explained in the current paradigm, like particle spin and the triadic combination of quarks.

Physical Reality Ultimately Depends upon Non-Physical Reality

The discovery of quantum equivalence is actual validation of the TDVP shift to a consciousness-based scientific paradigm. We have demonstrated that no stable particle could have emerged from a big bang origin event without the existence of gimmel, the basis of consciousness. Thus, current materialistic science is turned upside down. Scientists seeking to understand consciousness should not be looking for ways to explain consciousness in terms of matter and energy, they should be looking for ways to explain matter and energy in terms of consciousness.

SCIENCE BECOMES POETRY

THE POETRY OF SCIENCE

Newton and Leibniz sat on a wall,
Newton and Leibniz had a great fall,
And all the great forces of intellectual ken
Cannot put infinitesimals back together again!

THE TIPPING POINT
We are, at long last, at the point in the history of science where science becomes poetry. Distinctions are the words, logic the meter, and the description of reality the poem. Like any good poem, the new science, TDVP, paints an enthralling picture. The dimensional domains of space, time and consciousness form the canvas, the calculus of distinctions is the paint, and the universe is the picture. Gimmel completes the picture, integrating the various parts, putting it all back together again.

Since the miraculous, inverse penultimate one-fifth of a century, 1905 to 1935, with the one-two punch of relativity and quantum mechanics, science has been fragmented. The approach has been reductionistic: take reality apart to see how it works. The extreme application of this approach is particle physics. Blast atoms apart and look at the pieces. We’ve smashed the watch with a hammer, now can we put it back together again?

Humpty-Dumpty is a story of entropy: once broken, he can’t be put back together as he was before the fall. You can’t un-ring a bell. The arrow of time, you know. But how vain and egoistic are we to imagine that we can undo nature, put asunder what God has brought together? But gimmel does what seems impossible in the physical world, it puts it all back together again, Thanks to gimmel, Nature reigns supreme with her super symmetry, and God is still on his throne!

GIMMEL AND THE ‘I AM’
In 1977, my first book, “The Book of Atma” was published. The introduction started with the following poem:

NARAYANA* – The “I Am”
Narayana fills all things
Narayana has no name
It is No Thing.
Transcendental, Alone

The cup still retains some heat:
So flowing ever on,
No stopping
Even when all motion ceases.

Flowing on: Life,
In vast ranges of mountain flowers-
In the summer night,
On and on, as ever, deep within and out.

And the forgotten is not forgotten,
Because the Sun, being,
Only NOW is-
No other ever was

* Narayana (SanskritNārāyaṇa) is the Supreme God according to Vedas, (including his different avatars), venerated as the Supreme Being in the Bhagavad Gita.

THE NATURE OF REALITY
Now that we have answered the question ‘why is there something?’ with the discovery of gimmel, in keeping with Gӧdel’s infinity and Einstein’s relative curiosity, we can ask a new question: Does God, or Nature, or whatever you want to call integrated reality, have any choice in the way the universe is constructed?

“Although all forms, and thus all universes, are possible, and any particular form is mutable, it becomes evident that the laws relating such forms are the same in any universe.”
- George Spencer Brown, “Laws of Form”
